Welcome to Lagan College Biology Department
What is Biology?
Biology is the study of living organisms, which includes their structure, functioning, origin and evolution, classification, interrelationships and distribution. We aim to stimulate and excite pupils' curiosity and their interest in the living world around them.
At Key Stage 3 the Northern Ireland Curriculum is followed in which topics such as how the human body works, the role and function of plants and the environment are studied.
Biology can be studied at Key Stage 4 as a component of AQA GCSE Core Science or Core and Additional Science or as a separate Biology GCSE.
Biology is delivered at both AS and A2 Level. The AQA Specification is followed, which combines biological theory, investigative work and practical procedures.

“In biology, nothing is clear, everything is too complicated,
everything is a mess, and just when you think you understand something,
you peel off a layer and find deeper complications beneath.
Nature is anything but simple.”
